Today is the first time that I’ve been back on the internet for three days. I’ve had to spend somewhat of an extended amount of time on it because as I’m still new to this I’ve had a couple of teething issues but I’m hoping that I’ve got them sorted out so I don’t have to spend as much time the next time.
The most important thing I’ve learnt is that I haven’t missed much at all. I’ve watched more TV news so I know what’s going on. I’ve not missed any important developments on subjects I’m interested in. In fact, rather than a moment of “Wow! My life has changed!” I’ve realised that it’s made very little difference. In fact, the lack of difference has been very important. It’s shown me that I’ve not needed the internet as much as I thought I did.
Whilst I’m here I want to clarify what I consider “internet usage”. Some internet usage is a form of distraction. This includes browsing YouTube (watching subscribed content isn’t needlessly browsing), Twitter, Facebook, blogs (hello!) and Google. These are the things I want to cut down on. Watching or listening to streaming services is technically internet usage I argue that it uses the internet to deliver its content and shouldn’t be classed as internet usage.
